If you’ve done crafts in the past, then making your own Skeleton Costume for Halloween should be a breeze. This has to be one of the easiest costumes to create. It simply involves drawing out a bone pattern, and filling it in with some white fabric paint.
Sometimes creating your own Halloween costume can be as expensive as buying one depending on the materials you use. But, our goal here is to create a low cost Skeleton Costume that anyone would be proud to wear.
Skeleton Costume Check List:
- Black Sweat Pants or Leggings
- Black Long Sleeve Sweat Shirt (Hooded if possible)
- White Fabric Paint
- White Face Paint
- White Face Paint
- Black Makeup Pen
- Large Makeup Sponge
Skeleton Costume Directions:
- To create your Skeleton Costume, lay out a pair of black sweat pants and a matching black sweat shirt on a flat work surface. Use your chalk to draw the outline of your skeleton bones onto the shirt and pants. Draw out the arm bones, ribcage, and the spinal cord on the shirt. Then draw out the leg bones and the pelvic bones on the pants.
- Now, fill in your skeleton bones using your white fabric paint and paint brush . To completely cover the black fabric, you may need to apply two coats.
If your not very good at drawing, here is a great resource I found, where you can print out the different Skeleton Bone Templates, it even includes a mask if you don’t want to use face paint. - Apply the black face paint to the areas surronding the eyes, the lower part of the nose around the nostrils, and the lips using the black makeup pen. Then apply the white face paint to the remaining areas of the face using your large makeup sponge.
- To complete the costume, have your child wear the hood of the sweat shirt over their head wear a pair black shoes or sneakers.
